Martyred student Mattoo’s family awaits justice for last 14 years

Srinagar: The family of 12th-class student Tufail Mattoo continues to await justice for the last fourteen years in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Tufail Mattoo was martyred on this day in 2010 after being hit by a teargas shell fired by Indian police near Ghani Memorial Stadium in Srinagar while returning home from tuition. His killing triggered massive anti-India demonstrations in the territory, resulting in the martyrdom of over 125 peaceful protesters by Indian troops, paramilitary, and police personnel in just a few months in 2010.

Tufail Mattoo’s name is synonymous with the bloody summer of 2010 in IIOJK. Despite the passage of over a decade, the family of the martyred student still awaits justice, and his killers remain free, perpetuating the ongoing bloodbath in the occupied territory.

Political experts and analysts in Srinagar say that India has never been serious about probing any crime in IIOJK, instead rewarding its troops for killing innocent people. They note that the killer Indian troops enjoy impunity under draconian laws in IIOJK, but the Kashmiris will never forget the sacrifices of their young martyrs and will continue their struggle for self-determination until complete success.

Meanwhile, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference leaders and people on social media have paid rich tributes to Tufail Mattoo on his 13th martyrdom anniversary and to all the martyrs of the 2010 mass uprising.
