Protesters block highway, railway track against killing of Kathua youth
Jammu: A 35-year-old chemist, Amarjit Sharma, was found brutally murdered with his throat slit open near his home in Mela village, Hiranagar tehsil, late last night.
The heinous crime sparked widespread outrage, with grieving relatives and neighbors staging a strong protest demonstration, blocking the highway and railway track for over four hours. Carrying Sharma’s body and chanting slogans, the protesters demanded immediate arrest of the culprits, disrupting traffic and train movement.
Police and civil officers intervened, assuring a thorough investigation and promising strong legal action against the criminals. A Special Investigating Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the murder and arrest the accused.
The killing of Amarjit Sharma is yet another gruesome reminder that the occupation of Jammu and Kashmir has normalized violence and murder. The territory has witnessed a surge in targeted killings, with numerous civilians falling prey to bullets and blades.
The relentless spate of killings has become an order of the day, with lives being lost in the deadly embrace of occupation. The impunity with which these crimes are committed is a stark reminder of the systemic failure to protect human life in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
