UAPA tribunal confirms India’s decision to ban MLJK, TeH
Srinagar: A so-called tribunal, constituted under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), today, confirmed the India’s declaration to enforce a five-year term ban on Masarat Alam-led Muslim League Jammu & Kashmir and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH).
According to Kashmir Media Service, the tribunal, led by Delhi High Court Judge Sachin Datta, was constituted in January this year to ascertain the validity of the imposed ban.
The Muslim League Jammu and Kashmir led by illegally detained Masarat Alam was formally banned for five years by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs on December 27, 2023.
Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) was officially banned on December 31, 2023.
In the last five years, the Indian government has banned 10 pro-freedom groups in Jammu and Kashmir under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967.
