Hollow claims of development in IIOJK: Residents rue lack of space at Handwara school
Srinagar: Narendra Modi’s claims of development in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have been starkly contradicted by the dire conditions at a school in Handwara area of Kupwara.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Boys Upper Primary School in Sarmarg, nestled in Upper Rajwar Valley in Handwara, presents a grim picture with inadequate accommodation severely impacting its students. The school, housing ninety-seven students, struggles with only two dilapidated classrooms. To cope with overcrowding, teachers are compelled to utilize the veranda as an additional makeshift classroom, compromising the quality of education.
Local activist Javid Ahmad expressed deep concern in a media interview, lamenting that despite years of pleas from the community, authorities have failed to address the pressing issue. “The lack of basic amenities such as fencing and a playground further exacerbates the challenges faced by the school,” Ahmad added.
The neglect from the education department in IIOJK has left the local community disillusioned, as their repeated appeals for additional classrooms and improved facilities continue to be ignored. The situation underscores a profound sense of neglect and despair among residents, particularly concerning the well-being and educational prospects of their children.
