Delhi rain tragedy: Toll rises to 8, 3 bodies found in rubble
New Delhi: The toll in rain-related incidents in Delhi climbed to eight as rescue teams recovered the bodies of three labourers trapped under the rubble of a collapsed wall amid heavy rainfall in the Indian capital.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the under-construction wall collapsed at a construction site in New Delhi’s Vasant Vihar area during the downpour, officials reported.
DFS officials confirmed the identities of two of the deceased as Santosh Kumar Yadav and Santosh, while efforts are ongoing to identify the third labourer. The bodies were recovered with the help of cranes and pumps used to clear debris and water from the foundation pit.
The tragic incidents follow Friday’s havoc as the monsoon arrived forcefully, bringing the highest June rainfall in 88 years. Five people died in rain-related incidents on Friday. Among the victims were a cab driver killed in an airport canopy collapse, a man electrocuted in Rohini, and three individuals who drowned in New Usmanpur and Shalimar Bagh.
