Mehbooba Mufti says BJP attempting to destroy Indian Constitution

Denounces UP govt order to shopkeepers to display names

Srinagar: In a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its government in India, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has said that the party and its government are hell-bent on destroying the Indian Constitution, which guarantees equal rights to all citizens.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mehbooba’s remarks came in response to a recent directive in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, ordering shopowners and kiosk owners to display their names. She claimed that this move is a clear indication of the BJP’s intentions to undermine the Constitution. The move is also seen as an indication of identifying Muslim shopkeepers to make them easy targets.

The PDP leader referenced Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s earlier warnings that the BJP would alter the Constitution if re-elected, and asserted that Gandhi’s predictions are now proving true. She criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the matter, demanding that he clarify whether he supports or opposes the controversial order.

Mehbooba warned that the BJP’s policies initially target Muslims but will eventually affect Dalits and other marginalized communities. Her comments came after former trade union leader Khurshid Alam rejoined the PDP.
