IIOJK opposition parties to stage joint sit-in protest to press for rollback of amendments
Jammu: Opposition parties in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have announced a joint sit-in protest demonstration in Kathua, tomorrow, August 8, to demand the restoration of statehood and the rollback of amendments introduced post August 5, 2019, including those granting unbridled powers to the Lieutenant Governor.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the decision was taken at an all-party meeting held at the Congress Office in Jammu, under the banner of All Parties United Morcha. The meeting was attended by representatives of various social organizations, including Congress, NC, Shiv Sena (UBT), PDP, AAP, S Akali Dal, CPI ML, AIPA, HRS, and DBMC.
Manish Sahni, Convenor of All Party United Morcha and Shiv Sena (UBT) IIOJK Chief, said that despite the long gap of five years, the promise of returning statehood has not been fulfilled. He added that the decisions taken by the Modi government regarding occupied Jammu and Kashmir indicate that the territory is not likely to get statehood in the near future.
Another meeting was held in Kathua, chaired by Convenor ID Khajuria, to finalize the preparations for the sit-in demonstration. Members of the district unit of the participating parties attended the meeting.
