NC leader Mehdi speaks out on critical Kashmir issues
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference leader Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has expressed strong concerns on various critical issues affecting Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mehdi, who is also member of Indian parliament from Srinagar, highlighted the plight of horticulture in the territory and criticized the Modi government measures that he believes have undermined independent journalism in Kashmir.
He also sounded the alarm on cultural theft, expressing deep concern over the perceived appropriation of local heritage and traditions. “Kashmir’s rich cultural identity is being eroded, and it’s essential we take steps to preserve it,” Mehdi emphasized.
Furthermore, Mehdi criticized the lack of regulatory measures in tourism, stating that unchecked tourism is straining local resources and the fragile ecology of Kashmir. He advocated for a cap on tourist numbers to ensure sustainable development and prevent environmental and social issues like alcohol consumption in public places.
The National Conference leader also discussed various other critical issues concerning Kashmir, including unemployment and the need for sustainable development.
