Indian BSF kills Bangladeshi teenage girl at border
Dhakha: Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel killed an eighth grade girl student near a border area of Bangladesh.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the BSF personnel opened indiscriminate fire near the Kulaura border in Moulvibazar district, resulting in the death of the 14-year-old Bangladeshi girl, Swarna Das. The shooting took place in the Lalarchak border area of Sharifpur Union on the Bangladesh side
According to reports, Swarna Das, a student in the eighth grade, was traveling with her mother, Sanjita Rani Das, and a couple from Chittagong. They were attempting to cross the border into India to visit Swarna’s brother, Parendra Das, who resides in Tripura. As they approached the barbed-wire fence, BSF personnel opened fire indiscriminately, resulting in Swarna’s immediate death. The accompanying couple sustained injuries.
Reportedly, the BSF took the deceased girl’s body away after the shooting.
Following the shooting, the survivors sought refuge in the Lalarchak village. The injured couple was subsequently taken to a hospital in Sylhet for treatment.
Nayek Obaid, patrol commander of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 46 Battalion in Lalarchak confirmed that a group of Bangladeshis had attempted to cross into India and that one individual was killed by BSF gunfire. Despite these confirmations, Indian authorities have not yet returned Swarna Das’s body to her family. KMS-14R
