Syed Nasiruddin Chishti condemns Hindu organization’s petition over Ajmer Dargah

Jaipur: Syed Nasiruddin Chishti, Chairman of the All India Sufi Sajjada Nasheen Council, has vehemently condemned a petition filed by a Hindu organization in a Rajasthan court alleging that a temple once existed at the site of the Ajmer Dargah of Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the petition filed by Hindu Sena claims that the Dargah should be recognized as the location of Bhagwan Sankat Mochan Mahadev, asserting that it was originally a temple.

In a press release, Chishti stated that such assertions by Hindu organizations are attempts to undermine sacred sites for the sake of superficial notoriety, which he described as deeply unfortunate. He emphasized that throughout history, the Dargah had never faced objections during the reigns of Hindu kings and Rajput rulers; even the Marathas held the shrine in high esteem. Thus, the claim that the Dargah was originally a temple is not only erroneous but also profoundly troubling.

Chishti further remarked that the Hindu Sena’s legal action signifies a troubling rise in religious fanaticism within the country. He called for a prohibition on individuals, institutions, and organizations that promote such toxic ideologies.
