Mirwaiz calls for immediate release of jailed Kashmiris, slams terminations

Srinagar: Senior All Parties Hurriyt Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has called for immediate release of all illegally detained Kashmiri leaders, lawyers, journalists and activists languising in jails across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and India.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement shared on X, Mirwaiz reiterated the demand for the right to freedom and liberty for thousands of incarcerated Kashmiris.

“On Human Rights Day, I once again appeal for the release of the [Hurriyat] leadership, lawyers, human rights activists, journalists, traders and youth who are languishing in jails,” he wrote.

Mirwaiz also condemned the ongoing spree of termination of government employees in Kashmir, which he described as unjust and arbitrary.

“Two more government employees terminated by the stroke of a pen without any legal recourse! Families rendered destitute before the onset of harsh winters. Punishment and fear have become the hallmarks of an authoritarian mindset ruling us here,” he stated.

He urged the administration to take immediate steps to end such practices, emphasizing the need for reinstating employees terminated without a fair hearing.

The statement comes amid widespread concerns over human rights violations in the territory, including arbitrary arrests, terminations and restrictions on civil liberties.
