Right to Self-Determination highlighted on Kashmir Day in Islamabad, Rawalakot
Islamabad: The Voice of Justice for Kashmir and Kashmir Liberation Cell organized a commemorative event at Kashmir House in Islamabad on the occasion of Kashmir’s Right to Self-Determination Day.
According to Kashmir Media Service, prominent leaders such as Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry, President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, former President and Prime Minister Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, Hurriyat leader Sheikh Abdul Mateen, and Sardar Zulfiqar Roshan Khan addressed the gathering.
The event, attended by politicians, professors, intellectuals, students, poets, and people from various sectors, emphasized the ongoing struggle of the Kashmiri people for their right to self-determination.
Speakers reaffirmed the commitment to reminding the United Nations of the promise made to the Kashmiri people regarding the right to a plebiscite, a promise that remains unfulfilled despite decades of waiting. They condemned the continuous oppression faced by the people of Kashmir under Indian military rule.
The leaders expressed that, despite the immense sacrifices made by Kashmiris, the international community has largely remained indifferent, allowing India to perpetuate its abuses. They emphasized that Kashmiris will never give up their struggle and will eventually achieve their rightful claim for self-determination.
Among the dignitaries joining virtually from the diaspora were Dr. Syed Ghulam Nabi Fai, Lord Mayor Qurban Hussain, Imtiaz Khan, Shoaib Arshad, Sardar Zubair Khan, Sardar Zarif Khan, and Zakir Hussain Syed. The diaspora speakers expressed admiration for the resilience of the Kashmiri people and reiterated their unwavering support for the cause. They strongly condemned any attempts to normalize trade and diplomatic relations with India while millions of Kashmiris continue to suffer and fight for their basic rights.
Chairman of the Kashmir Committee, Qasim Noon, also addressed the event by phone. Sardar Zulfiqar Roshan Khan, one of the event’s organizers, thanked the speakers and participants.
Meanwhile, the Kashmir Policy Research Institute, in collaboration with the Pakistan Army and the Kashmir Institute of Management, organized a seminar to mark Right to Self-Determination Day.
The event featured addresses by Commissioner of Muzaffarabad Division Masood Rehman, Sector Commander ISPR Brigadier Sohail Tariq, Director of Kashmir Policy Research Institute Dr. Raja Muhammad Sajad Khan, Draftsman of Law Zahid Mahmood Khan, and Lecturer at Kashmir University Madihah Shakeel.
The seminar emphasized the ongoing Kashmir struggle, reaffirming solidarity with the Kashmiri people’s quest for freedom from Indian occupation. The seminar’s organizing team included Assistant Director Khawaja Haroon Rashid, Assistant Director Syed Usman Bukhari, and other members of the Kashmir Policy Research Institute.
During the event, speakers assured that the sacrifices of the Kashmiri people would not be in vain, and the fight for Kashmir’s freedom would continue until it achieves its rightful independence.
Participants also urged the United Nations to intervene and resolve the Kashmir dispute, ending India’s oppressive occupation and atrocities.
