Modi’s Hindutva ideology, its impact exposed internationally
Islamabad: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindutva ideology and its impact are being exposed internationally as well.
According to Kashmir Media Service, an important report by the UK Home Office regarding Narendra Modi’s Hindutva ideology and its impact has been released.
According to Middle East Eye, the British government report said that extremist Hindus played a central role in the Leicester riots in the UK in 2022. These riots began when 200 Hindus wearing masks were seen marching in the Highfield area while chanting the slogan of Jai Shri Ram.
The British government report has named Hindutva extremism as a major cause of the Leicester riots. According to a May 2023 report by the Daily Mail, the Leicester riots were instigated by activists from India’s ruling BJP party.
According to Middle East Eye, immediately after the riots, Leicester Mayor Sir Peter Solsby said; “Hindutva ideology is a key factor in these incidents, the leaked report proves that Hindutva has been discussed in detail in a major policy document. This is the first time that Hindutva extremism has been discussed in detail in a major government document.
According to a report by Yvette Cooper published in the British daily The Guardian, Hindu nationalism was named as a major cause of the rise of extremism.
Rajiv Sinha, director of Hindus for Human Rights, UK, told Middle East Eye that Hindu extremism was a major threat to the UK and hoped that the leaked report would provide further foundations for tackling Hindu nationalism.
According to Middle East Eye, the extremist party, RSS, closely associated with Prime Minister Modi and a contributing factor to his rise to power, the British Home Office report recommends broadening the scope of counter-extremism work to counter the growing trend of Hindutva extremism.
