Kashmir family stages protest, demands probe into son’s mysterious death in Ramban

Jammu: The family of a Srinagar-based youth, whose body and vehicle were found in a gorge in the Digdool area of Ramban along the Srinagar-Jammu Highway on December 30, 2024, staged a protest today, demanding a thorough investigation into his death.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a group of family members, relatives, and friends from Srinagar gathered in Ramban, carrying placards and urging the police to expedite the probe and ensure justice.

The deceased, Umar Yaseen Shah (24), a resident of Railway Colony, Nowgam, Srinagar, went missing on December 22 while traveling in his Mahindra Thar from Srinagar to Jammu. His body was discovered by a shepherd in a gorge in Digdool on December 30. Upon receiving information, the Ramban police recovered the body and later handed it over to the family.

The bereaved family strongly refutes the claim that it was an accident, saying that Umar was murdered in cold blood. They are demanding the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a fair and speedy probe into the case.

The family said that Umar was the only son and sole breadwinner, making their loss even more devastating.

“If justice is not served, we will take our protest to New Delhi,” the grieving family said.
