Tamil Nadu residents protest Hindi imposition with Kolam and graffiti
Chennai: Residents of Tamil Nadu have staged a unique and strong protest against the Modi government’s imposition of Hindi in India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the residents of the Mayiladuthurai area protested by drawing vibrant Kolams and graffiti at their doorsteps. The intricate designs carried strong messages, including slogans such as “Long Live Tamil” and “Do Not Impose Hindi on India.”
Kolam is a traditional art form in South India, similar to rangoli. It involves drawing geometric patterns on the floor using colored flour, chalk, or white stone powder.
The protest reflects growing concerns over linguistic identity in Tamil Nadu, where opposition to the imposition of Hindi has been a historic issue. Residents used the traditional art form of Kolam to voice their resistance while reinforcing their cultural pride.
The demonstration comes amid ongoing debates over language policies in the country, as the RSS-backed Indian government attempts to impose Hindi across India. Tamil Nadu continues to advocate for the preservation and promotion of regional languages.
