Cow protection laws betray BJP’s hypocrisy against Muslims traders

New Delhi: In what critics term hypocrisy, on one hand, India has become a leading global exporter of beef, while on the other, the BJP government is enforcing stringent cow protection laws that disproportionately target Muslims.

According to Kashmir Media Service, India’s beef exports have been 1.57 million metric tons in 2024 alone, generating INR 388 billion.

Despite all this, the BJP has been using cow protection laws to suppress Muslim communities, imposing harsh penalties on those involved in cow-related activities.

Cow vigilante groups, associated with Hindu nationalist organizations, have been involved in violent attacks against Muslims and Dalits, under the guise of cow protection.

Between 2010 and 2017, 63 cow-related attacks resulted in 28 deaths, with 24 of the victims being Muslims. This has led to an escalation of communal violence, furthering divisions within the country.

Critics argue that the BJP continues to suppress Muslim traders and uses cow protection laws as a political tool to push its Hindutva agenda.
