Families rendered homeless after ruthless demolition drive in Srinagar

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party leader Iltija Mufti on Thursday condemned a demolition drive led by Lietuenant Governor Manoj Sinha in Srinagar, which left several families homeless.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Iltija shared a video on X , calling the demolition in Bemina area “ruthless” and emphasizing that no family should be deprived of shelter. She reiterated her party’s commitment to protecting vulnerable communities, citing the PDP’s introduction of the J&K Regularization & Recognition of Property Rights of Residents Land Bill, 2025 in the assembly.\

“This is precisely why PDP has introduced the bill—to grant ownership rights to marginalized sections. No family should be left without a roof over their head,” she wrote.

The demolition drive has sparked outrage, with locals accusing authorities of targeting impoverished families under the guise of urban development. Civil society members and opposition parties have criticized the administration for failing to provide alternative housing before carrying out evictions.
