President’s rule in Manipur: A plea to use force against own citizens
Islamabad: The imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur is essentially a call to use force against India’s own citizens, transforming the state into a militarized zone.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Indian government’s failure to address ethnic conflicts and restore peace has abandoned Manipur, fueling violence instead of reconciliation.
Years of militarization, AFSPA enforcement, and BJP’s ultimatum to separatists have led to over 250 killings and 60,000 displacements since May 3, 2023, Internet blackouts and suppression of minorities, destruction of 360+ churches and 7,000 homes and systematic persecution of Christian Kukis.
The National People’s Party withdrew support from the BJP-led Manipur government, citing law enforcement failure. Experts warn of India’s democratic decline, while global bodies urge intervention against religious persecution.
