Modi govt’s betrayal may reignite Naga separatist struggle, warn experts

New Delhi: The long-standing stalemate on the Naga peace deal has intensified calls for sovereignty and separation after the allegations against the Narendra Modi-led BJP government of ignoring the legitimate political aspirations of Nagaland’s people.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) has warned of renewed resistance, citing the BJP’s deliberate failure to implement the 2015 Framework Agreement. Despite Modi’s grand announcements at the time, the promised freedom remains elusive, fueling resentment among the Nagas.

While Modi in his foreign trips project India as a global peace mediator, the unresolved Indo-Naga conflict exposes his government’s inactiveness. The BJP’s reluctance to acknowledge the sovereignty dispute and its systematic sidelining of Naga rights have exacerbated tensions, pushing indigenous groups to seek international mediation.

Political analysts argue that Delhi’s duplicity has not only betrayed Nagaland but has also destabilized the region.

With growing frustration among the Nagas, experts warn that the BJP’s refusal to engage meaningfully in peace talks could escalate the situation, further deepening the historical grievances of indigenous communities.
