Blaze hits historic Jamia Masjid in Mirzapur, police probe possible conspiracy

Mirzapur: Panic erupted in Chunar town of Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district after unidentified miscreants set fire to the historic Jamia Masjid. The blaze damaged the main doors, carpets, electrical fixtures, and a small carpet-making unit inside the mosque.
According to Kashmir Media Service, police said multiple CCTV cameras captured suspicious individuals near the mosque shortly before the fire, prompting an investigation into possible foul play.
Chunar Police and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Verma visited the site and began forensic and technical examinations.
Local residents, including Sahil of Peerwaji Shaheed locality, raised the alarm and helped bring the fire under control before it spread further.
Imam Zahid Qadri urged authorities to act swiftly, calling the attack on the mosque a “serious offense against a place of worship.”
The incident highlights the continuing need to protect religious sites across India.
