IIOJK in grip of severe cold wave

Srinagar: Indian illegally occupied Kashmir (IIOJK) is in the grip of a severe cold wave as all weather stations across the Valley recorded sub-zero night temperatures, the Meteorological Department (MeT) said.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Srinagar logged its coldest night of the season at –4.4°C, down from –3.9°C the previous night and 4°C below normal.

South Kashmir remained the coldest, with Pampore at –5.5°C, Islamabad –5.7°C, and Pulwama –5.8°C. Other key stations reported sharp dips as well: Budgam (–4.6°C), Bandipora (–4.5°C), Shopian (–6.5°C), Kulgam (–2.4°C), Ganderbal (–3.3°C), Sonamarg (–4.0°C), Zethan Rafiabad (–5.2°C), Pahalgam (–5.0°C), Gulmarg (–1.0°C), Kokernag (–1.6°C), Qazigund (–4.0°C), Kupwara (–4.4°C), and Srinagar Airport (–5.2°C).

The Zojila Pass plunged to 16.0°C, one of the lowest readings of the season.

In the Jammu region, higher-altitude towns experienced a sharp chill while the plains stayed above freezing. Temperatures stood at Jammu 8.7°C, Banihal –1.5°C, Batote 4.0°C, Katra 8.5°C, Bhaderwah 0.4°C, Kathua 8.2°C, Jammu Airport 10.1°C, Udhampur 4.6°C, Ramban 4.1°C, Samba 6.9°C, Rajouri 2.0°C, Kishtwar 3.4°C and Reasi 6.9°C.

Ladakh remained in deep freeze with Leh at –8.6°C, Kargil –9.5°C, and Nubra –7.7°C.

The Met has forecast mainly dry weather until December 2, though night temperatures are expected to fall further.
