Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has condemned India’s continued unlawful detention of thousands of Kashmiris, including political leaders, under draconian laws aimed at crushing dissent and silencing the Kashmiri struggle for freedom.
According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas in a statement issued in Srinagar said that over 4,000 Kashmiris remain imprisoned in Indian jails under black laws such as the Public Safety Act (PSA) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Hurriyat leaders are repeatedly jailed on fabricated charges, denying them political space and suppressing democratic expression in the territory.
The detainees, according to the APHC, are frequently confined to dark cells, denied medical care, and subjected to inhumane treatment. Families live in constant fear for the safety and well-being of their loved ones, highlighting India’s blatant violation of international law, including the Geneva Conventions.
The APHC stressed that the frequent use of black laws reflects India’s worst form of political vendetta, with arrests and detentions deliberately aimed at breaking the resolve of Kashmiris committed to freedom.
The APHC urged the international community to intervene immediately to secure the release of all illegally detained Kashmiris and to uphold human rights in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
