Mamata grieved over alleged lynching of Bengali labourer in Maharashtra’s Pune
Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed deep grief and anger over the alleged lynching of 24-year-old Bengali labourer Sukhin Mahato in Pune district of Maharashtra state.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mamata Banerjee, in a post on X, termed the incident a “hate crime” and said that the victim was killed just for speaking Bengali. She demanded strict action against the elements involved in the incident.
Mamata Banerjee said that Sukhin Mahato was the sole bread earner of his family who was killed in a xenophobic attack. The young man was targeted and killed because of his language and his identity.
He said this incident is the result of the hateful environment created by the Modi government of India and the BJP state government where xenophobia is being used as a weapon and innocent people are being targeted.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits and the strictest punishment and expressed her condolences to the victim’s family.
It should be noted that in Modi’s India, Bengali Muslims and other minorities are subjected to reprisals, especially mob lynching, and hateful violent incidents against Muslims on the basis of language, religion and identity are on the rise.
The Hindutva BJP leaders openly call Bengali-speaking Indian citizens and Muslims as infiltrators, foreigners and suspects.
