Students protest for establishment of NLU in Jammu

Jammu: Students of Jammu University and other institutions held a massive demonstration and took out a protest march in Jammu, demanding establishment of a National Law University.

According to Kashmir Media Service, raising slogans, students took out a protest march against the authorities and blocked the Tawi bridge, disrupting traffic.

During the protest, brief scuffles were witnessed between the agitating students and policemen. The protesters later attempted to march towards the Civil Secretariat but were stopped at the gates, leading to brief scuffles once again between the students and the police.

The protesting students said they have no objection over establishment of NLU in Kashmir and they were only demanding that the institution be set up in the Jammu region also to ensure equitable access to quality legal education and opportunities for local students.

They emphasized that students are seeking academic justice through democratic means and urged the authorities to address their concerns without confrontation.

The protesters said this movement represents only the beginning of a larger democratic struggle for educational equality, expressing hope that their voices will be heard in the appropriate forums, including the Assembly.
