Thousands defy restrictions to welcome Leader in Doda
Mass gathering reflects growing defiance of suppressive measures in IIOJK

Jammu: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, thousands of people defied prohibitory orders imposed by authorities and gathered in large numbers in Doda district, highlighting growing public resentment against restrictions on civic and political activities.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a massive crowd comprising men, women and children assembled to welcome Meraj Malik, a political leader, following his release from detention, despite strict orders banning public gatherings. The scale of participation reflected widespread defiance of the administration’s attempt to curb public expression and mobilization.
Eyewitness accounts said people from different areas of Chenab Valley came out in large numbers, forming a long procession that grew significantly as it moved towards Doda. Residents along the route extended support by offering water and food, while many joined the gathering spontaneously, turning it into a major public event.
The turnout demonstrated the depth of public anger against unjustified restrictions and repeated use of draconian laws to silence political voices. Such mass participation, despite warnings of legal action, reflects the people’s determination to assert their right to assembly and expression.
The development comes despite authorities deploying police personnel and using public address systems to warn residents against participating in any gathering. However, the warnings failed to deter people, as thousands continued to converge and take part in the event.
Notably, the authorities had imposed a ban under Section 163 of the draconian Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, prohibiting the assembly of five or more persons in areas including Clock Tower Chowk, Dessa Road, Akramabad and the sports stadium in Doda, citing apprehensions of public disorder. The restrictions were enforced through an order issued by District Magistrate Krishan Lal.
Meraj Malik was detained under the draconianPublic Safety Act (PSA) on September 8, 2025 by authorities in Jammu over his criticism of the policies of the occupation regime.
