Blast outside Indian BSF headquarters in Jalandhar

Jalandhar: A blast occurred at the gate of the Punjab Frontier Headquarters of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Jalandhar, triggering panic in the city.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the explosion took place when Gurpreet, 22, a Flipkart delivery boy, had come to deliver parcels to BSF personnel. As he returned to his scooter after delivering one parcel, a blast ripped apart the vehicle. It damaged electrical equipment, poles, and a BSNL box nearby. Window panes of a shop were also shattered.

Hours after the Jalandhar blast, another explosion was reported near an Indian Army cantonment in Amritsar.

One theory suggests explosive material may have been planted inside a dustbin located between the BSNL box and the scooter. The dustbin was reduced to fragments.

Eyewitnesses reported a sudden tremor, which also brought down a small BSNL signboard about 100 metres away. Gurpreet sustained injuries in the incident. Indian forces have cordoned off the area. Investigators are examining if an undelivered parcel still on the scooter contained explosives. Dog squads and forensic teams have been called in. Residents and vendors at a vegetable market a few hundred metres away said the blast was heard nearly a kilometre away, causing panic. Police sources said Gurpreet, from the nearby Garha locality, regularly delivered parcels at the BSF gate.
