Post-poll violence rocks West Bengal, deep political fault lines exposed

New Delhi : Fresh incidents of violence in the Indian state of West Bengal following what the opposition describes as rigged assembly elections have once again exposed the fragile law and order situation, with clashes, killings and attacks on forces’ personnel reported from multiple districts.

According to Kashmir Media Service, violent clashes erupted in Sandeshkhali where rival groups linked to the Trinamool Congress engaged in armed confrontation, leaving at least five Indian forces’ personnel injured.

The clashes involved gunfire and crude bombs, creating panic in the area.

In separate incidents, one worker each from the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Trinamool Congress were killed, highlighting the deadly nature of post-poll tensions.

Reports indicate that violence, including arson and vandalism, has spread across several parts of the state, leaving multiple people dead and dozens injured.

Observers say the recurrence of post-election violence in West Bengal reflects a deeply entrenched culture of political confrontation, where electoral outcomes are being rejected by chief minister Mamta Banerji.

Analysts note that such incidents underscore systemic governance failures of India under the BJP rule and its inability to ensure peaceful political transitions. The continuation of violence even after the conclusion of the electoral process highlights the widening gap between BJP’s official claims and ground realities in different parts of India.
