Father of jailed MP Engineer Rashid passes away at Delhi hospital

New Delhi: Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, 85, father of jailed Indian parliamentarian Engineer Abdul Rashid, passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi following a prolonged illness.
According to Kashmir Media Service, he died at AIIMS Delhi last night. Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid had met his critically ill father at SMHS Hospital in Srinagar on April 30, 2026, after being granted interim bail.
Sheikh was initially receiving treatment at the Chest Diseases Hospital in Srinagar before being shifted to SMHS Hospital as his condition worsened. After a further decline in health, he was airlifted to AIIMS Delhi on May 2, 2026, where he remained under treatment until his death.
His death was announced through a social media account associated with Er Rashid.
Sheikh Abdul Rashid, known as Engineer Rashid, has been lodged in Tihar Jail since 2019 after being arrested by India’s National Investigation Agency in connection with a 2017 case.
