28-year-old woman raped and killed in Assam, couple slain in Odisha
Guwahati: A 28-year-old woman, employed as a daily wage worker, was raped and subsequently murdered in the BJP-ruled Assam state of India, adding to the growing concern over the safety of women across the country.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the body of the missing woman was discovered inside a smoke channel of a brick kiln, where she was employed. Darrang Superintendent of Police, Prakash Sonowal, disclosed that the woman had gone missing on March 7 from Naodinga village, where she worked. “The body of the woman was found inside the smoke channel of the kiln on the next day,” he stated.
Following preliminary investigations, it was revealed that the victim had been raped before being brutally murdered. Sonowal further added, “The woman hailed from Kokrajhar district and was residing with her husband to work in the brick kiln.”
Meanwhile, in another tragic incident, a married couple was found dead in the Gochhapada area of Kandhamal district in Odisha. The deceased were identified as Dahira Kanhar and his wife, Batasi Kanhar. Maoists alleged that the couple was informer for the police.
