Pakistan condemns illegal detention of prominent Kashmiri lawyer Mian Qayoom

Islamabad: Pakistan has strongly condemned the arrest of prominent Kashmiri lawyer and former President of the High Court Bar Association, Mian Abdul Qayoom, by Indian authorities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Kashmir Media Service, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, during her weekly briefing in Islamabad, said that Mian Qayoom’s detention, based on fabricated charges, is a clear act of political vendetta against a figure who suffers from multiple chronic ailments and old age.

“The Indian authorities’ campaign to crush dissent in IIOJK remains relentless, targeting not only prominent figures like Qayoom but also thousands of other Kashmiri political prisoners, dissenters, and human rights defenders” she said.

She urged the Indian authorities to immediately immediate release of Mian Abdul Qayoom and all other Kashmiri detainees.

Mumtaz Zahra Baloch reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continue providing political, diplomatic, and moral support to the Kashmiri people for the just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

The Foreign Office Spokesperson also announced that Pakistan will host batches of 20-30 Palestinian students from Gaza to join medical colleges in the country. “This decision aims to enable Gaza students to complete their medical education in fields such as cardiology, orthopaedics, oncology, paediatrics, and surgery, addressing critical needs in Gaza’s healthcare system” she said.
