JI India launches campaign against sexual violence across India

New Delhi: Amidst the alarming rise in cases of sexual assault against women in India, Jamaat-e-Islami India, the country’s largest Muslim organization, has announced a month-long nationwide campaign titled ‘Morality is Freedom’ to raise awareness about the link between morality and true freedom.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the campaign, set to launch in September, aims to address the growing incidents of sexual violence and homicide targeting women and girls, particularly marginalized communities. National Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami India, Ms Rahamat Nnissa, emphasized the need to reflect on the mentality and behavior towards women and girls in the country.

Citing recent incidents of sexual violence, she highlighted the increasing crimes against women, as reported by India’s National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and the National Family Health Survey (NFHS). She stressed that the decline of moral values, objectification of women, and growing use of alcohol and drugs contribute to harassment and exploitation.

The campaign will feature awareness programs, special events on campuses, and involvement of scholars from different religions to bring common moral values into public discourse.
