Manipur MLAs may resign en masse if Manipur crisis persists: Ex-CM Ibobi Singh
Imphal: Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Manipur Okram Ibobi Singh warned that prolonged inaction in addressing the ongoing crisis in the state could lead to mass resignations by both ruling BJP and opposition MLAs.
According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking to the media, Ibobi Singh emphasized the urgency of restoring normalcy, cautioning that further delays could force legislators to step down collectively. “This situation is untenable, and if swift measures are not taken, both opposition and ruling party MLAs may be compelled to resign,” he said.
He also stated that the people of Manipur oppose the imposition of President’s Rule, arguing that it would only exacerbate tensions. “Manipur’s residents seek meaningful action and solutions, not authoritarian measures,” he added.
The warning comes amid escalating violence and political uncertainty in the state, with fresh incidents of unrest adding to the challenges faced by the BJP-led government.
