Omar Abdullah slams ‘dual power centers’, renews call for full Statehood
Jammu: With day-to-day affairs in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir being run by the Delhi-appointed Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has renewed the call for the restoration of full statehood, emphasizing its importance for effective governance.
According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking to reporters outside the Chamber House in Jammu after a meeting, Omar highlighted the adverse impact of dual power centers on governance.
“Yes, we want statehood. We need statehood, and we demand it. This has been promised to the people of Jammu and Kashmir multiple times—publicly, in the Indian Parliament, and even in the Supreme Court. Jammu and Kashmir deserves a single power center and full statehood to ensure smooth and efficient governance,” he asserted.
Responding to questions about water and power supply for Rohingya refugees on Jammu’s outskirts, Omar maintained a humanitarian position. “They are human beings, and we will treat them as such while they are here,” he stated.
Omar’s remarks reflect mounting frustration with the limited authority of his government, while actual power lies with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, appointed by New Delhi’s BJP-led administration. His call adds to growing demands for restoring statehood to the territory.
