Farooq urges India to protect minority rights, condemns attacks on Muslims
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has called on India to take immediate and concrete steps to protect the rights of minorities, especially Muslims across India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement, Farooq Abdullah expressed grave concern over the increasing attacks on Muslims, stating that such actions undermine India’s constitutional principles and harm its global image.
“These attacks tarnish India’s reputation internationally and obstruct its growth as a nation,” Farooq said, emphasizing the need for every citizen to have equal access to development and prosperity.
He warned that the persistence of such incidents in the 21st century is a sign that the country is straying from its foundational values. “The government cannot simply pay lip service to the constitution and human rights; its policies must reflect these principles. Concrete action is essential to protect the rights of all citizens and ensure India’s progress and inclusivity,” he asserted.
Farooq Abdullah urged New Delhi to uphold the dignity of every individual, noting that failure to address these issues would deepen societal divisions and hinder the nation’s advancement.
His statement comes as calls for justice and equality grow louder on Human Rights Day.
