Memorandum presented to UN calls for an end to atrocities in IIOJK

Rawalakot: On International Human Rights Day, a memorandum was presented by the people of Poonch, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, to the office of the United Nations Military Observers Group (UNMOGIP) in Rawalakot, calling for an end to the atrocities committed by Indian forces in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the memorandum was presented by civil society members, including Advocate Bilal Shaqeel, Advocate Kanwal Raheem, Advocate Sardar Saeed, and Dr. Muhammad Ishtiaq. The document urged the United Nations to implement its approved resolutions, which grant the Kashmiri people the right to self-determination through a plebiscite, allowing them to decide their own future.

The memorandum demanded an immediate halt to the ongoing atrocities in IIOJK, highlighting the continued brutal actions of the Indian military. Over 8,000 individuals have been forcibly disappeared, thousands have been martyred, and more than 7,000 are enduring imprisonment and torture. The document also condemned India’s attempts to alter the Muslim-majority identity of the occupied territory.

The residents expressed deep concern over the situation in IIOJK and urged the United Nations to pressure India to end the atrocities. The memorandum further called for UN fact-finding missions and human rights organizations to be allowed to assess the situation in the occupied territory. It also demanded that the United Nations call on India to withdraw its forces, allow military observer groups to operate freely, and cease its efforts to alter the region’s demographic makeup.

The memorandum also called for the appointment of a UN representative to monitor and prevent Indian atrocities in the occupied territory.
