NC member submits impeachment notice against Allahabad HC Judge
Srinagar: National Conference member of Indian parliament Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has submitted a notice in the Lok Sabha to initiate an impeachment motion against Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav of the Allahabad High Court for his anti-Muslim remarks at a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) event in Uttar Pradesh.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mehdi announced on social media platform X that the motion had the signatures of over 100 MPs. He expressed gratitude to the political parties and individuals who supported the move, highlighting their commitment to constitutional values like unity, plurality, and equality.
“I thank Smaj Wadi Party, NC, Asad Owaisi, and others for their support,” he wrote.
Justice Yadav had sparked controversy during a VHP event on December 8, where he spoke about the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and linked laws to the majority’s will. Opposition leaders condemned his remarks, labeling them as hate speech and questioning his participation in the event.
The impeachment motion reflects growing concerns about judicial neutrality and adherence to constitutional principles.
