Casual workers stage protest, demand regularisation
People protest against illegal mining in Ravi, Ujh rivers

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, casual workers from various government departments staged a protest at Press Enclave in Srinagar to demand the regularisation of their services.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Police swung into action and bundled many protesters into vehicles, foiling their protest.
“We have been suffering in the absence of regularisation and salaries for years now. This is the time for the government to wake up to resolve our issues. No one wants to hit the streets on a daily basis but we have no option when we are not able to make ends meet and feed our families,” one of casual workers said.
Last month, the casual labourers of the IIOJK Wildlife Department held a protest demanding regularisation. During the protest, the workers assembled outside the residence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar and raised slogans in favour of their demands.
Meanwhile, residents of Kerrian Gandyal and Pandori staged a protest at the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office in Kathua area of Jammu region voicing their anger over rampant illegal mining in the Ravi and Ujh rivers.
The demonstrators, including women submitted a memorandum to Additional Deputy Commissioner Kathua, highlighting the unregulated mining activities that are causing significant financial losses to the IIOJK exchequer.
A prominent Rajput outfit staged a march in Jammu in support of the demand for early restoration of statehood to occupied Jammu and Kashmir with its leader threatening to intensify the agitation if the BJP-led Indian government failed to keep its promise on the issue.
The activists of Yuva Rajput Sabha led by their president Vikram Singh took out the rally from the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh, at Tawi bridge near Jewel chowk in the heart of the city amid heavy deployment of police personnel.
The participants, chanting slogans in support of statehood, crossed the Tawi bridge upto Bikram chowk and returned to the statute before dispersing off peacefully.
