Posters pay tributes to Burhan Wani in IIOJK

Srinagar: Posters have again appeared, paying tributes to the popular youth leader Burhan Muzaffar Wani ahead of his 9th martyrdom anniversary in Srinagar and several other parts of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Burhan Wani, along with two associates, was martyred by Indian troops in a fake encounter in the Kokernag area of Islamabad district on July 08, 2016. The killing triggered a mass uprising during which over 150 civilian protesters were killed and thousands injured by Indian forces.

The posters, displayed by several pro-freedom organizations in different areas of the Kashmir Valley, urged people to pay homage to their martyred youth leader Burhan Wani and other martyrs. They also asked the people to visit martyr graveyards and Tral town, the native area of Burhan Wani, on the day to express solidarity with the martyrs’ families.

Burhan Wani and other Kashmiri martyrs have sacrificed their lives for a sacred cause, and it is the responsibility of the Kashmiri people to take their mission to its logical conclusion, the posters read.

The posters said the mission of Shaheed Burhan Wani and other martyrs to free their homeland from Indian clutches would be accomplished at all costs, and urged the people of the territory to foil the nefarious designs of India collectively.

The posters stated that the unresolved Kashmir dispute was the biggest hurdle in peace and political stability in the region, so the United Nations must take solid steps for a peaceful settlement of the lingering Kashmir dispute. The posters also urged people to unite for the resolution of the Kashmir issue.

The posters further urged people to observe a complete shutdown on 13 July, as Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control, in Pakistan, and across the world will observe Kashmir Martyrs’ Day to pay homage to the martyrs of July 13, 1931, and all other Kashmiri martyrs.
On July 13, 1931, the forces of the Dogra Maharaja killed 22 Kashmiris, one after another, outside Central Jail in Srinagar during court proceedings against Abdul Qadeer, who had urged the Kashmiri people to defy the despotic Dogra rule. At the time of Namaz-e-Zuhr, a young man started calling the Azaan and was shot dead by Dogra soldiers. Another youth took his place and was also martyred. In total, 22 youths sacrificed their lives until the completion of the Azaan. Since then, Kashmiris have observed July 13 as Kashmir Martyrs’ Day every year.
