Speakers urge UN, OIC to intervene on Kashmir, uphold self-determination right

Pledge to carry forward martyrs’ mission as Mirwaiz Farooq, Ghani Lone honored

Islamabad: Hurriyat leaders and activists marked the anniversaries of Shaheed Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq, Shaheed Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, and the Hawal martyrs at an event in Islamabad, renewing their pledge to continue the struggle for Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.

The event, organized by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference-AJK chapter and the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Cell, was presided over by Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi.

Speakers condemned India’s human rights violations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, mass arrests, and attempts to alter the region’s demographic makeup through fake domiciles.

Speakers paid rich tributes to the great sacrifices of the martyrs, their unmatched services to the Kashmir freedom movement, and their struggle for the inalienable right to self-determination.

Addressing the function, speakers declared that Shaheed Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq, Shaheed Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, and the martyrs of Hawal laid down their lives for the freedom of Kashmir, justice, and the protection of the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people. They reaffirmed the resolve to carry the martyrs’ mission — the struggle for the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination — to its logical conclusion at all costs.

The speakers strongly condemned the serious human rights violations by Indian occupation forces in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, mass arrests, political vendetta, demolition of houses, and seizure of properties.

They said India is committing state terrorism to suppress the legitimate freedom movement and highlighted the continued illegal detention of thousands of Kashmiri political leaders, youth, and workers.

They expressed grave concern over India’s systematic attempts to change the demographic character of Muslim-majority occupied Jammu and Kashmir by issuing fake domiciles to non-state subjects, in violation of international law and UN resolutions. Speakers noted that the entire Valley of Kashmir has been turned into an open prison with severe restrictions on media and suppression of every voice of truth.

Emphasizing unity, speakers demanded immediate and effective steps for the resolution of the Kashmir issue as per UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

In his presidential address, Ghulam Muhammad Safi quoted a Hadith and highlighted that great rewards from Allah come with great trials. He stressed that India is evading a just solution and trying to label the legitimate Kashmiri movement as terrorism. He made it clear that no solution imposed against the will of the Kashmiri people would be acceptable.

The event was attended by senior Hurriyat leaders and prominent personalities from various walks of life, including Muhammad Farooq Rahmani, Mahmood Ahmad Saghar, Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, Mir Tahir Masood, Altaf Hussain Wani, Madam Shameem Shawl, Hasan-al-Banna, Sheikh Abdul Mateen, Syed Ijaz Rahmani, Zahid Safi, Director Liberation Cell Afsar Khan, Assistant Director Liberation Cell Najib-ul-Ghafoor Khan, Imtiaz Wani, Haji Muhammad Sultan, Sheikh Muhammad Yaqoob, Abdul Majeed Lone, Muhammad Shafi Dar, Mian Muzaffar, Muhammad Ashraf Dar, Syed Gulshan, Adeel Mushtaq, Manzoor Ahmad Dar, Nazir Karnahi, Syed Manzoor Shah, Sanaullah Dar, Imtiaz Ahmad Butt, Rais Mir, Information Secretary Mushtaq Ahmad Butt, and several other political, social, religious, and public figures.

The event concluded with an appeal to the international community, United Nations, OIC, global human rights organizations, and justice-loving nations to raise their voice for the Kashmiri people, take notice of Indian atrocities, and take effective steps for the realization of the right to self-determination. Prayers were offered for the martyrs.

Meanwhile, APHC leader and Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement chairman Altaf Ahmed Butt also paid tribute to the martyred Kashmiri leaders, calling them towering voices of the resistance whose sacrifices continue to inspire generations.
