Gupta says denial of promised statehood betrayal of Kashmiris’ trust

Jammu: Senior National Conference leader Rattan Lal Gupta has urged the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir to end the “prevailing dual power system” in the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, while addressing a meeting of Central Zone office-bearers at in Jammu, Gupta said the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir had bravely played their part in the democratic process and now it was the responsibility of New Delhi to honor its word.
“The continued denial of statehood is unjustified and a betrayal of repeated commitments made by the top Indian leadership. Restoration of a full-fledged democratic setup with legislative powers is essential for safeguarding the identity of Jammu and Kashmir and ensuring equitable development,” Gupta maintained.
The meeting was organized by former minister Babu Rampal, who welcomed the recent announcement by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah about launching a signature campaign for statehood. He said the campaign would be carried forward wholeheartedly in the larger interest of the people of Kashmir.
