Delhi CM Rekha Gupta attacked during public hearing, accused detained
New Delhi, August 20 (KMS): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was allegedly attacked during a Jan Sunwai at her Civil Lines residence on Wednesday morning when a man posing as a complainant approached her with court papers.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the attacker, identified as Rajesh Bhai Kimji Bhai Sakariya (41) from Rajkot, Gujarat, was quickly overpowered by security staff and later detained by police for questioning. “The accused was in the queue, showed the CM some court papers, and was taken away after security intervened,” a senior police officer said, adding that Commissioner SBK Singh rushed to the spot soon after.
The Delhi BJP condemned the incident, with party president Virendra Sachdeva saying Gupta was “stable but in shock” after being examined by doctors. “She is a strong woman and knows her commitment towards Delhi,” he added.
This is not the first such incident in Delhi politics. Former CM Kejriwal had earlier faced attacks, including ink and shoe-throwing at rallies.
Police have launched a probe to determine the motive behind Wednesday’s assault.
