DFP terms Jammu massacre as worst example of genocide, ethnic cleansing

Party says 1947 carnage aimed at changing IIOJK’s demography

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of Jammu, describing the 1947 massacre of Muslims as one of the most horrifying and tragic episodes in the history of the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, DFP spokesman Advocate Arshad Iqbal in a statement issued in Srinagar said the large-scale killing of Muslims in Jammu at the hands of Hindu extremists, aided and abetted by the Dogra ruler, was the worst example of genocide and ethnic cleansing witnessed in South Asia.

He said that during the period between 27 October and 6 November 1947, thousands of Muslims were brutally massacred by armed mobs led by extremist elements, while hundreds of thousands of innocent families were forced to flee their homes and seek refuge in newly formed Pakistan.

Arshad Iqbal said the massacre was carried out under a well-planned conspiracy to change the demography of Jammu and Kashmir. “The Muslims, who constituted more than 60 percent of Jammu’s population, were reduced to a minority after over two hundred thousand people were killed,” he added.

The DFP spokesman maintained that the Jammu massacre was not an isolated event but part of a long-drawn design to alter the demographic composition of the Muslim-majority state. He said that India’s revocation of Articles 370 and 35-A in August 2019 was a continuation of the same sinister agenda aimed at disempowering the Kashmiris politically, economically and socially.

Expressing grave concern over the continued bloodshed and state violence in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Arshad Iqbal urged the international community to take serious notice of the gross human rights violations being perpetrated by Indian troops in the occupied territory.

He said the world powers must fulfil their moral and legal obligations by pressuring New Delhi to stop its campaign of killings, arrests and demographic engineering in the territory, and to allow the people of Jammu and Kashmir to exercise their UN-recognized right to self-determination.
