Rajasthan govt bans provision of Iftar and Sehr meals to Muslim prisoners

New Delhi: In another Islamophobic move, the Rajasthan government has imposed draconian restrictions on providing Iftar and Sehri meals to Muslim prisoners in jails across the state.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the government’s order, issued earlier this month, mandates that all food items for Ramadan must be purchased through authorised consumer stores within prisons, effectively banning direct donations and supplies from individuals and organisations. This move has been slammed by Muslim organisations and community leaders, who argue that it will compromise the quality and nutritional value of food provided to fasting inmates.
“It’s a clear case of Islamophobia and discrimination,” said Ilyas Qureshi, Vice-President of Jamiat-ul-Quresh. “The government’s decision is not only insensitive but also inhumane. It’s a blatant attempt to isolate and marginalise Muslim prisoners.”
The restrictions have also raised concerns over the prisoners’ right to practice their faith and access nutritious food during the holy month of Ramadan. “Fasting for long hours requires proper nutrition, and the government’s decision will only exacerbate the suffering of Muslim prisoners,” said Abdul Salam Johar, President of the Progressive Muslim Alliance.
