NEET cancellation exposes India’s exam system collapse: Rahul Gandhi

BJP govt allows paper leak rackets to flourish, says opposition

New Delhi: The Congress has said the cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 following allegations of a paper leak had exposed the “collapse” of India’s examination system, with the Opposition accusing the BJP-led Indian government of allowing paper leak rackets to flourish.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said the dreams of more than 22 lakh students had been “crushed” due to corruption and negligence.

“Some fathers took loans, some mothers sold their jewellery, lakhs of children stayed awake through the night preparing for the exam. In return, they got paper leaks, government negligence and organised corruption in education,” Gandhi said in a post on X.

Calling the cancellation a “crime against the future of the youth”, he said students were repeatedly punished while “paper mafias” escaped action.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said the controversy was the latest example of the National Testing Agency’s repeated failures and demanded a complete restructuring of the NTA.
