Tamil Nadu leader Stalin calls for abolition of ‘Sanatana Dharma’

New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin has revived his controversial stand on “Sanatana Dharma” during his maiden speech in the Assembly, saying the ideology “which divides people” should be abolished.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the DMK leader reiterated the position while attacking attempts to dilute Tamil identity and traditions. He also warned against sidelining “Tamil Thai Vazhthu”, the Tamil invocation song, during official functions.

Udhayanidhi’s 2023 remarks on Sanatana Dharma had triggered an India-wide political storm and multiple legal complaints from Hindu organisations. The Vishva Hindu Parishad demanded an unconditional apology from Udhayanidhi, urged the Speaker to expel him from the House and remove his statement from proceedings, and accused the INDIA bloc and Tamil Nadu government of silence over the remarks.

BJP Chief Spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy claimed the DMK’s recent ouster from power was a direct consequence of such divisive rhetoric.
