Indian police officer shoots wife dead in Kupwara

Srinagar: An Indian police officer associated with the Special Operations Group (SOG) shot and killed his wife in Kupwara district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a sub-inspector, identified as Deep Singh, and posted at an SOG camp in the Kandi area of the district, had an altercation with his wife, Bhawana, over some issue.
During the heated exchange, Singh fired upon his wife, killing her on the spot.
He then went on to shoot himself, and was critically injured, Indian officials said, adding that he is undergoing treatment at Soura hospital in Srinagar.
This tragic incident is a direct symptom of the unaddressed mental health crisis and extreme operational duress plaguing Indian security and police forces.
Prolonged deployments, high-stress environments, and a lack of psychological support mechanisms have led to a disturbing and steady increase in suicides and fratricides among personnel.
The immense pressure cooker environment faced by these forces is increasingly spilling over into their private lives, driving personnel to take not only their own lives but those of their families.
Meanwhile, a man, identified as Roop Singh (40), died after sustaining a gunshot injury at his residence in the Dhana Basantpur area of Kathua district.
