Congress urges BJP to stop collecting illegal taxes in Jammu
Jammu: The Congress party has strongly criticized the recent decision to double the toll tax in Jammu, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, terming it another unfavorable move by the Bharatiya Janata Party regime.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Congress Senior Vice President and Chief Spokesperson, Ravinder Sharma, in a statement in Jammu condemned the toll tax increase, calling it a cruel joke on the people of Jammu region. He highlighted the previous complete strike against toll plazas and the demand for the removal of Sarore and other tolls.
The Congress accused the BJP of showing indifference to the sentiments and sufferings of the people in Jammu on various issues, including smart meters, power crisis, property tax, and tax hikes.
The demand is for the immediate removal of toll plazas at Lakhanpur and Bun, asserting that they have exceeded their designated time period. Additionally, they called for the withdrawal of the increased toll, despite BJP announcements like “one nation, one tax.”
The Congress leader urged BJP leaders in Jammu and Kashmir to speak up and urge Delhi to withdraw illegal and unreasonable taxes, especially during a time of economic distress.
