Mirwaiz says repeated restrictions on him to prevent him from coming to Jamia Masjid is sad

Srinagar: Anjuman Auqaf of Jamia Masjid has said that its president and senior leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was allowed by the authorities to offer Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid, Srinagar.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was allowed to move out of house arrest after five months. He was put under house arrest in August 2019 and released in September last year. He offered prayers at the Jamia Masjid for some weeks then, but was again placed under house arrest following Israel’s action in Gaza last year.

Addressing the faithful after Friday prayers Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that repeated restrictions on him to prevent him from coming to Jamia Masjid is very sad and painful to him and he knows that it also causes great grief to people as the pulpit falls silent.

He said even on occasions of Shab-e-Barat and Shab-e-Miraj he was not allowed to come to the masjid despite repeated appeals from all including the Anjuman.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that the case for his full release from house arrest is in court and he is fighting it to ensure that the court delivers justice and all restrictions on his movement are removed, especially being able to perform his religious obligations as the Mirwaiz.

Mirwaiz said that one has to be ready to face all eventualities as the times and circumstances we live in are very tough. As far as the pulpit of Jamia Masjid is concerned, it has always advocated peace and resolution of the conflict, he added.

Mirwaiz hoped that authorities would now allow him to conduct religious functions, especially in view of Ramadan, as is the tradition for centuries, starting with majlis-e-waz at Astana e Aliya Naqshband sahib on 3rd Ramzan, the death anniversary of Hazrat Fatima RA.
