IIOJK’s HR situation requires urgent attention of UNHRC: Altaf Wani
Geneva: Member of the Kashmiri delegation to Geneva Altaf Hussain Wani has said that the human rights situation of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir requires urgent attention of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).
According to Kashmir Media Service, Altaf Hussain Wani addressing the 55th session of the UNHRC Under agenda item 4 general debate on behalf of the World Muslim Congress said for last 76 six years and more importantly for last 34 years people of Kashmir have been reeling under military occupation and custodial killings, arbitrary detentions, enforced disappearances, sexual abuse, destruction of properties and torture continue with impunity.
He deplored that India was shifting population to the occupied territory and confiscating property of the citizens which was in violation of the Hague regulations.
He added that most recently Indian state of Maharashtra had bought land in occupied Jammu and Kashmir which was not only illegal as per state subject laws but also an attempt to deprive indigenous people of land and their rights which were protected through United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People.
