Civilian crushed to death by Indian army vehicle in Manipur
Imphal: As part of a larger strategy employed in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and volatile states of India, a civilian was deliberately crushed to death in Manipur, after being struck by an Indian army vehicle.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident occurred in Senapati District Council when a 16th Assam Rifles vehicle knocked down 21-year-old Mahaingam Horam. The victim died at the scene, while the army truck fled towards Mao.
Horam’s wife had given birth to a baby just the previous day.
Upon learning that the vehicle belonged to the Assam Rifles and that they had fled the scene, a mob gathered at the police station and chanted anti-army slogans.
In Manipur, IIOJK and other conflict zones, Indian army has been carrying out extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, and torture. The draconian law Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), which grants sweeping powers to Indain forces in conflict zones, is facilitating these abuses.
This pattern of violence and impunity is a serious concern and requires urgent attention from the international community.
